CARE FOR OTHERS WELFARE

THE LOVE OF SELF

Research has shown that the average human being is extremely self-centered. That is, he always considers himself highly above others and readily makes himself a priority.

Unfortunately, the love of self is a root cause of the many issues that have plagued the modern society today. We now live in a system where the winner grabs it all and leaves crumbs or nothing to those at the low ebb.

No wonder the devil exploited the matter of the importance of self to orchestrate the downfall of mankind (Genesis 3:1-6).

Having this understanding, Jesus Christ was quick to remind his followers on the need to die to self by making their lives of no consequence above others (John 12:24-25).

SHIFT THE FOCUS …

No doubt it is important to consider the well-being of one’s self. However, the problem arises when this love for self grows disproportionately in comparison to the love for others.

The Scriptures reminds us to love our neigbhours as ourselves (Mark 12:31). One simple way to look at this scripture is such that, whatsoever is not good enough for you should also not be good enough for your neighbour.

It is therefore important to start shifting the focus from ourselves to our neighbours (e.g. friends, relatives, parents, the less privileged in the society etc). Doing so demonstrates that we love God and are willing to be partakers of the glory that awaits us in Heaven.

KEY TO MIRACLES

The Bible is full of examples of people who curried miracles from God simply by focusing on the welfare of others. Let’s look at a few of them:

  • Dorcas (Acts 9:36-42): She made garments for the widows and was raised from the dead as a result.
  • The Shunammite woman (2 Kings 4:8-37): She provided accommodation for the prophet and received a son in return.
  • Abraham (Genesis 18:1-15): He unknowingly entertained angels on a very hot day and that paved the way for an everlasting covenant with God — he became the father of many nations of the earth.

Beloved, show care for the welfare of others today and watch God bless you in return.
