Greetings to you in the precious name of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. By the special grace of the almighty God, the theme for this month shall be on LIVING HEALTHY IN TIMES LIKE THESE.
LIVING HEALTHY IN TIMES LIKE THESE
The issue of healthy living has recently become a very topical issue especially in the midst of the lockdown brought upon us by the COVID-19 outbreak. Consequently, health authorities all over the world are experiencing a heightened number of complaints related to health matters.
No doubt God is aware of the health implications posed by the lockdown. As such He does not want us to be ignorant of the impending dangers the effect of the lockdown poses to our health. No wonder he encourages us thus in the Bible saying “Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well” – 3 John 2 (NIV).
Therefore, as Christians, we ought to be aware of the dangers posed by the lockdown to our health and well-being and as such make conscious effort to look after ourselves in times like these. For example, while there are merits with working from home, the luxury also comes with the risk of becoming sedentary which could in turn have adverse consequences for our health. As such, we’re encouraged to explore options for staying active physically, mentally and emotionally while the lockdown lasts.
WHY DO WE NEED TO LIVE HEALTHY IN TIMES LIKE THESE?
One of the reasons God created man is so that we can enjoy the benefits of Koinonia with Him. However, this can only be made possible if we’re alive and healthy (Isaiah 38:19). No doubt one of the greatest benefits the lockdown has afforded Christians in times like these is the ample opportunity to fellowship with God from the comfort of our respective homes. Furthermore, staying healthy and fellowshipping with God has the added benefit of sustaining a healthy lifestyle – “Worship the LORD your God, and His blessing will be on your food and water. I will take away sickness from among you, and none will miscarry or be barren in your land. I will give you a full life span” – Exodus 23:25-26 (NIV).
SOME BIBLICAL WAYS TO STAY HEALTHY
Regardless of our peculiar challenges in times like these, it is possible to live healthy by embracing the following biblical principles:
1. Fear God and abstain from sinful and ungodly habits (Proverbs 3:7-8; Ephesians 5:18)
2. Learn to ALWAYS maintain a good countenance. Laugh! Laugh! Laugh! (Proverbs 17:22)
3. Get into the habit of initiating and enjoying daily physical exercise (I Timothy 4:8)
