STAY THE COURSE

IT’S A MARATHON …

No doubt you’d have come to hear about the saying, “it’s a marathon, not a sprint”. This is a true saying for a every Christian. That is, our ultimate victory lies in our ability to finish the race of salvation that’s set before us.

Thank God for bringing us into the second half of the year. A new beginning always presents an opportunity for:

  • Personal reflection: A moment to self-assess our spiritual progress.
  • Self-discovery: Every personal reflection ought to result in the discovery of who we are i.e. our strengths and weaknesses.
  • Fortification: Once our weaknesses are known, it is then important to work on them and be ready to get better (Hebrews 12:1-2).

BE WARY OF DISTRACTIONS

As with every marathon, the race is expected to be laden with all kinds of distractions. That is, you’ll get to encounter characters and gimmicks that are intentionally designed to make you derail.

Apostle Paul understood the the importance of staying the course in a race by putting our body under subjection (I Corinthians 9:24-27) while being mindful of the following categories of detractors:

  • Those who start with you but have no intention of finishing.
  • Those whose intention is to jeer you off the course.
  • Those who encourage you to take a pause out of goodwill.
  • Those who want you to indulge in momentary euphoria.

FINISH STRONG

It’s important to realise that God desires that we stay the course and finish the race very strong just like His son, Jesus Christ (Hebrews 12:2).

The race towards Heaven was never promised to be easy. But we have an assurance in Jesus Christ who has overcome the world (John 16:33, Isaiah 43:2).

Beloved, are you currently at a dejected state in life? Do you feel overwhelmed by too many life challenges and considering giving up?

Do not give up! God is calling you unto a moment of separation via personal reflection, self-discovery and fortification.

May you find grace to finish strong in Jesus’ mighty name.
