IT REALLY MATTERS …
“Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you …” — 3 John 1:2 (NIV).
No doubt God cares about every aspect of our lives. But our wellbeing i.e. our overall state of health, happiness and comfort takes precedence. This is because everything else revolves around our wellbeing. For example, serving God, making a living, procreation etc. will become practically impossible or challenging if we’re not in the right state of wellbeing.
So, this month, God wants us be intentional about looking after our wellbeing. It is a clarion call and must not be ignored.
He demonstrated this Himself when He took some time off on the seventh day to rest following His creative works (Genesis 2:2).
DON’T BE NEGLIGENT
In the present age, there is an increasing need to focus more on our wellbeing especially as lifestyle choices have shown signs of palpable deterioration.
It is unfortunately to know that so many people still question why their wellbeing has to take the central focus of their lives. They make up excuses for neglecting their wellbeing along the following lines (for example):
- I’m always too busy and hardly find time to go visit the doctor for medical check-up …
- I just have to work in order to make ends meet. I’ve got huge bills to pay …
- I feel perfectly fine and do not have a need to visit the doctor. I’ll probably do so when I experience symptoms of sickness. But for now, I just feel perfectly OK …
SOME PRACTICAL TIPS
God wants us to desist from making excuses with our wellbeing and to take action. He demonstrated an important practical step when He rested (Genesis 2:2).
Apart from resting, below are some practical steps required to look after our wellbeing:
- Practice healthy lifestyle choices: eat healthy foods, get enough sleep, exercise regularly, avoid drugs and alcohol, go for regular medical check-ups etc.
- Practice good hygiene — it helps to reduce the risk of exposure to pathogens.
- Build healthy relationships and try out new hobbies along the way e.g. dancing, gardening, painting etc.
Beloved, please prioritise your wellbeing today. God bless you.
