A TIMELY REMINDER
The Scripture in Hebrews 13:1-3 is a timely reminder to Believers that kindness is becoming rarer by the day. No doubt the Bible posits one of the signs of the end times thus “… and the love of many shall wax cold” (Matthew 24:12).
It’s also worthwhile pointing out that a key attribute of some of the Patriarchs of faith was their relentless ability to show kindness. For example, Abraham had compassion on three strangers who wandered in the heat of the day (Genesis 18:1-8). But little did he know that his act of kindness would be the catalyst needed by God to accelerate the promises that were foretold concerning him.
Regrettably, today’s world is riddled with so much hatred and self-centeredness so much so that breeds increasing acrimony amongst the human race.
WHY IT MATTERS
Unfortunately, there’s no fulfillment in life without genuine love backed by acts of kindness. In fact, Jesus Christ commands the need to love our neighbours as ourselves. So then, why is it important for Believers to show kindness?
Well, the answer lies in the following:
- It is God’s nature. That is, if we’ve been created in God’s own image then it should also be our nature to show kindness to others.
- It demonstrates our obedience to his commandments (John 14:15).
- It could just be the catalyst needed for our desired breakthrough. And just like Abraham, perhaps God is waiting on us to leverage acts of kindness to bring about His promises in our lives.
HOW TO GO ABOUT IT
And like the saying goes, “you can’t give what you don’t have”.
Unfortunately, this has become the reason why so many people struggle to show kindness in the world today – they don’t even kn ow how to go about it. The basic steps below can help us get started:
- We must work on self first. Everyone must first understand how to love themselves from God’s standpoint (Mark 12:31).
- We must take little steps to practice acts of kindness. It can sometimes take time to become selfless (Romans 12:2).
- We must grow in acts of kindness and must not stop growing (Galatians 6:9).
God is counting on you today to show some kindness.
